Her extensive experience covers AML/CTF, sanctions, licensing, cybersecurity, and data privacy. She has represented clients under investigation by major global regulators, including the FCA, OFAC, HKMA, and SFC, and has assisted clients in managing the fallout from cyber-attacks and ransomware incidents.
Leonie joins us from King & Wood Mallesons in Hong Kong, where she was counsel, and previously held the position of principal associate at Eversheds Sutherland. She holds an LLB and a Diploma in Legal Practice from Sheffield University. Currently, Leonie is on secondment in Cayman, working alongside Lucy Frew, partner and Head of our Regulatory & Risk Advisory group.
Kevin Taylor, office managing partner of Walkers Bermuda added, "We are thrilled to welcome Leonie and the experience she brings to Bermuda. Leonie's global experience and deep regulatory expertise will be invaluable as we continue to expand our regulatory offerings across the Americas."
Lucy Frew, commented, "At Walkers, we recognise the growing demand for regulatory expertise in the industry. Ensuring all our people are highly experienced specialist regulatory lawyers is paramount. Leonie's addition to our team reflects our commitment to providing top-tier regulatory advice to our clients."
Leonie expressed her enthusiasm regarding her upcoming move to Bermuda, "I am excited to work with a team renowned for its dedication to regulatory law. The opportunity to assist clients in navigating Bermuda's regulatory infrastructure, supported by my global experience, is sincerely rewarding."
She continued, "It is incredibly important that regulatory work is done by those that live and breathe regulatory law on a daily basis, with a true understanding of how regulators operate and how to navigate complex but often principle-based laws, rules and requirements. Walkers recognises that, giving it a truly unique appeal. This coupled with the high calibre of work and clients made moving to Walkers Bermuda a natural choice."
Leonie is due to arrive in Bermuda in early July 2024 where her work will support our clientele receiving the highest standard of legal counsel in an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
