Andy Randall
Managing Partner
Hong Kong
He is the latest in a series of senior appointments to the IDR team in the region. John Crook, Gareth Murphy and Victoria Raymond were appointed as partners in 2023, and Robert Gregory and Jolin Lin were promoted to counsel.
Brett, a Caymanian, has relocated to Hong Kong from the Cayman Islands, where he spent nine years with Walkers advising on commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Prior to that, he practiced for six years at another eminent law firm in the Cayman Islands.
Andy Randall, managing partner for Walkers in Hong Kong, said: "Our clients will benefit from Brett's deep, on the ground experience of the Cayman Islands' courts and legal system. He brings a wealth of legal knowledge and practical understanding that add to the bench strength of our highly regarded Insolvency & Dispute Resolution team in Asia Pacific."
Walkers' Insolvency & Dispute Resolution team is described by clients in the 2024 Legal 500 Asia Pacific Guide as continuing to: "attract the very biggest and best in commercial litigation from Hong Kong, China and Singapore: huge banking disputes, shareholder disputes and insolvencies. At the top of their game".
The firm's reputation as a leading firm in the region was reinforced this month with Walkers once again ranked Band 1 for Asia Pacific in the 2024 Chambers Global Guide to the world's leading lawyers and law firms. The IDR team in Asia Pacific is described by clients in the Guide as: "very experienced and well known for handling these complex and challenging cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters".
Commenting on his appointment, Brett Basdeo said: "I'm excited to be in Hong Kong. We have a strong team here in Asia Pacific and I'm looking forward to using my 15 years of Cayman Islands' legal experience and day-to-day experience of the courts to help us support our clients here."
