He provides multi-disciplinary advice to corporate creditors, debtors, fiduciaries and other officeholders and appointees on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters, including risk analysis on commercial arrangements, company law, insolvency and restructuring-related matters.
Brett's expanding advisory practice also encompasses intellectual property-related matters, including local and international registration, economic substance-related considerations and cross-practice advice in relation to commercial airline financing backed by collateral including loyalty programme and brand intellectual property.
Brett joined Walkers' Cayman Islands office in 2015, having worked in the dispute resolution and insolvency practice of another eminent Cayman Islands-based law firm for six years.
He is an experienced practitioner on matters relating to Cayman Islands law, with particular expertise pertaining to noteholder claims in distressed structured-finance vehicles and shareholder disputes, including just and equitable winding up and breach of fiduciary duty claims.
He maintains a right of audience before the courts of the Cayman Islands and has appeared as lead advocate before numerous statutory boards and tribunals, the Summary (Magistrates) Court, the specialist Civil, Criminal and Financial Services Divisions of the Grand Court, and the Court of Appeal of the Cayman Islands.

Brett is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association (CILPA), the Restructuring and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA), International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL International), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) and International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC).
Brett is the author of the 5th Edition of the Small Claims Handbook on Summary Court procedure, published by the Cayman Islands Ombudsman's Office, the foreword for which was provided by the former Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands, now Justice of Appeal, Sir Anthony Smellie, KC.
He was formerly appointed as a Civil Registrar and Notary Public of the Cayman Islands before relocating to Hong Kong in 2024.
