Walkers Admits Caymanian Attorney Aoife Murphy

Walkers is pleased to announce the admission of Caymanian Aoife Murphy, who was called to the Cayman Islands Bar on Wednesday 24 March after successfully completing her legal training with the firm.

Aoife was a recipient of the 2016 Walkers Legal Scholarship and in 2018 completed her LLB degree at Durham University where she was awarded an Upper Second Class Honours degree. She completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, Moorgate in London in 2019 and was awarded a Distinction.

During her studies, Aoife participated in the Walkers Internship Programme, spending three summers interning with the firm in different practice areas including Investment Funds, Insolvency & Dispute Resolution and Real Estate, where she gained practical, hands-on experience and familiarised herself with the teams, practice groups and the firm's culture.

Walkers' Global Managing Partner Ingrid Pierce moved Aoife's application before the Hon. Justice Richards and shared: "Aoife pursued every opportunity to learn at Walkers. She was more than a model student during her legal training and was a star articled clerk."

Aoife also spent four weeks participating in the Judicial Clerkship Programme, an initiative offered by the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioner's Association which enables articled clerks to receive in-depth exposure to the court's work, apply learned skills, understand the inner workings of the courts and learn about the process of judicial decision-making. It was during this time Aoife was first introduced to the Hon. Justice Richards, who granted her application for general admission as an Attorney-at-Law. Aoife said: "The Judicial Clerkship Programme was such an invaluable experience."

Aoife thanked her friends, family and the team at Walkers for all of their support and guidance, and specifically acknowledged the counsel she received from her Principal, Partner David Collins, who himself was a Walkers Scholarship recipient and Articled Clerk and has used his time at the firm to mentor other Caymanian lawyers.

In her free time, Aoife mentors students at the John Gray High School through the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation Mentorship Programme. She is also a member of 100 Women in Finance.

Aoife will join Walkers' Investment Funds Group and is the 57th articled clerk to have trained in the firm's Cayman Islands office.
