Leonie Tear

Leonie’s contentious work includes representing clients under investigation by global regulators including the FCA, OFAC, the HKMA and the SFC. This includes defending clients accused of breaching AML/CTF, sanctions, bribery and licensing laws. She also assists clients subject to cyber-attacks including managing risks related to ransom payments.

Leonie’s non-contentious work includes:

• advising on complex sanctions matters, including the resolution of conflicting laws; 
• designing compliance programmes (policies, procedures and training across all regulatory areas); 
• preparing clients for inspections and audits, including documentary reviews and mock interviews; 
• supporting digital asset businesses' licence applications, providing a full service of policy, procedure and control build out, licence application and ongoing regulator liaison; and 
• advising on data protection, cross-border data transfer issues, encryption and the use of algorithmic-based risk modelling.
