Welcome to our Fundamentals Asia White Paper for 2025, which supplements our Walkers’ global Fundamentals White Paper. The global White Paper is prepared on the basis of an analysis of the offering and constituent documents of all of the Cayman Islands domiciled and registered funds launched during 2024 where Walkers was involved and further supplemented with industry insights and conversations with our clients. However, we also leverage our footprint in Asia to extract and analyze data points across the open-ended and closed-ended fund markets in the region, and where appropriate, compare and contrast the experience of Asia-based managers against their North American counterparts.
It is an understatement to say that 2024 was eventful. A year characterized by conflict and climbing prices also saw voters in more than sixty countries go to the polls, most significantly in the US. And whilst much of the narrative in the regional fundraising market in 2024 hinged on waiting to see what the outcome of some of those elections would be, there was still an uptick in regional fundraising activity, from which various trends can be distilled as we look forward to 2025 and beyond.
