Colleen Farrington is a senior counsel in the Insolvency & Dispute Resolution Group in the BVI office.
Her practice includes commercial litigation as well as insolvency litigation. Colleen also advises office holders in complex cross-border proceedings, high net worth individuals, high street banks, companies, corporate service providers, creditors and liquidators.
She advises clients in the United Kingdom and the USA and regularly represents clients in court. Her matters have included substantial hearings in the BVI Commercial Court as well as appeals in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the Court of Appeal and the Privy Council. For the past two years, she has acted in the Emmerson litigation in the BVI Commercial Court, which is one of the most substantial and complex cases to have been brought in the jurisdiction in recent years. The Emmerson litigation has also led her to appear in the Court of Appeal on many occasions with leading counsel and an extraordinary counsel team. She successfully represented Emmerson International Corporation in its urgent application to the Privy Council in May 2019.
Colleen also successfully represented an ultra high net worth individual who obtained urgent freezing and receivership orders in the Commercial Court in March 2018 and again in July 2020, as well as a foreign Trustee in Bankruptcy who obtained recognition in May 2016, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal in January 2017.
